Prologue Part 4: Too Busy to Rest In Atlanta

Atlanta was nicknamed ‘the city too busy to hate’ back in the 1960s to symbolize Atlanta as a more harmonious city. Apparently Atlantans (Toby Butler and Henry Zimmer) take this approach to tourism and planned a jam packed few days for my visit. Talk about southern hospitality. I ended up doing so much that I’m going to have to partition this trip into a few posts.

During my time there I got to see Atlantan social life, breweries, an odd church bar and more. It was great but I’m ready to sit down for a long while. Here’s a quick update while I get everything else ready.

Stray Observations:

  • Southern hospitality is great. Except when you’re hungover and your Uber driver is the shining example of southern hospitality.
  • The laid-back, slow moving southern lifestyle disappears when it comes to driving.
  • Walking a couple miles in the afternoon may not sound bad in other cities, but you might as well be an explorer on Mercury with the summer heat.
  • Georgia’s a red state so they have some conservative laws, one of which prevents the distribution of alcohol at their manufacturing site unless they’re given as free samples. So Wild Heaven Brewery sells you a $15 tour package with six drink samples. I never got a tour.
  • On that note, police don’t seem to enforce open container laws there.
